Windows XP and modern security standards
Unfortunately, due to its age Windows XP reached End Of Life in April 2014, meaning that it isn’t receiving any updates or support from Microsoft. This means that it cannot and will not support modern encryption protocols that will be required on our new servers.
The encryption protocols that we are disabling support for are in some cases 25 years old, and have been insecure for for at least 15-20 years. Because of this, newer protocols have been released to replace the old and insecure ones.
Web hosting and other online services will slowly be making these changes over time, to ensure that their platform is secure and they’re keeping up with modern security standards. So this will start to become a bigger and bigger problem for Windows XP users as time goes on.
What can I do?
The best thing you can do here, would be to update to Windows 10 as soon as you can. Windows 7 also passed it’s end of life date on January 14th 2020, Windows Vista’s end of life date was in 2017, and Windows 8’s date is in 2023. Microsoft will be supporting Windows 10 until late 2025, which means you will receiving security updates and you won’t have any issues when trying to access internet services.
