Where to locate the registrant email address on a domain name

It is extremely important to keep your domain contact information up to date, it is especially helpful for when you need to transfer your domain name. During a domain transfer, you will be required to confirm the transfer via an email sent to the current registrant email address.

Here is how you can check the current registrant email address on a domain name:

.AU domain names (com.au, net.au, org.au)

In order to check the current registrant email address for a .au domain name, the best way is to run a WHOIS search on the auDA website here.

The Registrant Contact Email will be the current registrant email address.  The result should look like the image below.

gTLD, newTLD or other domain names (com, net, photography, xyz)

In order to check the current registrant email address for any other domain name, the best way is to run a search via our domain WHOIS checker, which you can do here.

The Registrant Email will be the current registrant email address.  The result should look like the image below.

What if the registrant email address looks strange, such as example@obscure.me?

This means that the domain you are checking has ID protection enabled. This feature hides information such as the registrant’s name and email address from public visibility. This strange email address will actually forward the email to the current registrant email address.

To find out the real registrant email address, you will need to log into the registrar’s online domain management portal and check the relevant domains contact information.

If the domain is with VentraIP, you may log into the relevant VIPcontrol account, disable ID protection, then once you have verified the registrant email address, you may then re-enable ID protection.
