Troubleshooting with a ping test

A ping tests the connection between two networks (your computer and our hosting server) by sending packets to a host and then reporting the time it takes to get a response. This allows us to follow the path your computer is going when looking for a website or email server, and if there are any dropped packets.

To conduct a ping please follow the instructions below:

Windows

  1. Open the command window by clicking Start, then search for an open CMD.
  2. In the command window type the following (substituting yourdomain.com with your domain name): ping yourdomain.com Press Enter to run the command.
  3. Copy the results by clicking and dragging to highlight the text in this window. Then press Ctrl+C to copy this to Notepad or a Word document. You can also simply paste the results directly in your eTicket.

MacOS

  1. Go to the Applications folder, then Utilities, then Network Utility.
  2. Click on the Ping tab and specify your domain name.
  3. Click Ping.
  4. Use Command+C to copy your results and paste (Command+V) them into Word or your eTicket.
