Locating the EPP Code (domain password) for a domain name
Steps to complete before transferring your domain name
- Ensure the domain name is unlocked.
- There is a 60-day cooling-off period enforced after a domain’s registration, which won’t allow you to transfer your domain name.
- If your domain name is expired, you won’t be able to transfer it
For most domains
- Log in to VIPcontrol.
- Click on My Services at the top of the page.
- Click on Domain Management.
- Click Manage next to your domain name.
- Click on EPP Password under Security (to the left of the page).
- Under EPP Code, you can click Copy to Clipboard to copy your domain name’s EPP Code.
For .NZ domains
.NZ domain names have UDAI Codes. They are functionally the same as an EPP Code, with the exception that they are only valid for 30 days.
The steps to retrieve your .NZ domain’s UDAI Code are as follows.
For .UK domains
.UK domain names are a little different, as they don’t have EPP Codes. If you want to transfer a .UK domain name to another domain registrar, you need to update IPS tag for the domain name.
You can ask your new registrar for their IPS Tag, or search for it on Nominet’s website. Then submit an eTicket to our team, so they can update it for you.
Be advised that some registrars may require you to let them know you’re transferring the domain name to them before you update the IPS tag. So it may be worth checking that with them, before proceeding.
