Creating an alias or parked domain in cPanel
What is an alias domain?
An Alias (also known as a parked domain) allows you to set up a new domain to mirror the content of your website’s primary domain. This is useful when you own multiple variations of the same name (such as both a .com and .com.au) of your business name and you wish to ensure they both show the same website. You could also use an alias to set up a redirect or to set up an email account for that specific domain.
By default, this will mirror the content of your primary domain. In the Domains section of cPanel, you can set it up to redirect to alternate locations.
Adding an alias
- Log in to your cPanel service.
- Click on the Domains icon on your cPanel home screen.
- You will now see a blue Create a New Domain button; here you will enter the domain name you wish to use.
- Ensure that the Share Document Root box is ticked.
- Click Submit.
- That’s it! Make sure that this new domain is using the DNS records or nameservers for this cPanel account.
Important Note: aliases will not have their own SSL Certificate applied to them per cPanel’s AutoSSL functionality.
