Creating a sub-domain in cPanel
A subdomain allows you to create extra addresses, that end in your domain primary domain name. For example, if you have the domain name banana.com, a sub-domain of that would be shop.banana.com.
How to create a subdomain in cPanel
- Log in to cPanel.
- Navigate to Domains.
- Click the blue Create a New Domain button on the right-hand side of the page.
- Untick the Share Document Root tickbox before proceeding.
- If left enabled, your subdomain will serve the same content as your primary domain.
- Enter your subdomain in the Domain text box. This should automatically fill out the Subdomain box that appears below.
- The Document Root box should also be filled out automatically.
- Click Submit.
Done! This will create the necessary DNS records in your cPanel DNS Zone. If your domain isn’t using our hosting nameservers, you will need to add a DNS record for this new subdomain.
You can manage website files for this subdomain via the folder nominated in step 6.
